@PureCarnage Well, games are partially a different thing. Some game companies were against SOPA/PIPA. Just look who is the publisher of your game.

This is like whack-a-mole. If you want to own the moles, you don't whack them as they pop up. You disasemble the whole whack-a-mole system and whack them to your heart's content.

What I wanted to say is; it's not stupid because it's ineffective, it's stupid because it's playing by their rules. People are the ones who should be writing rules and if people think piracy is okay, they should fight the laws against it and force those companies to deal with it by improving the service as @Gargon mentioned in his thread. As long as you live in fear of ending up in jail for reading a novel you like, well fuck that.

Also, I for one would always pay for original goods if I thought it's worth the money(or if I had money), but look at it this way; I can't know if it's worth or not unless I read it beforehand. So in a sense, forcing me to pay before I see what it is is like forcing someone to buy food without checking it's expiry date.

Also, I'm all for supporting artists, not the companies who publish their stuff.

A few people holding out on games and stuff won't change anything, really. In the unlikely event that this event does affect their sales margins, they'll just assume that you're downloading it illegally. I don't think they'll end their support for internet censorship or anti-piracy laws after that.

I don't remember being transported into the world of Atlas Shrugged. The companies support the bill to prevent piracy, protecting their own assets. Not all of them are lobbying for interwebz domination.

Also, you seem to assume the Anonymous is being noble here (being crusaders against a great evil or something). Let me say this straight. They are a bunch of trolls on 4chan. Trolls on 4chan. Very far from any kind of heroic. No company is going to believe that there is no illegal downloading going on because a bunch of internet greifers mentioned it vaguely.

Though I will say that I am against this idea of just stopping everything. I see no point or benefit from it other then to aggravate these companies. As said by @DarkChaplain, this would seem to also fuck smaller companies who may also be against SOPA and such others or simply not care for how these things turn out.

Though again, this is simply from the opinion of someone who does not want to make too much trouble for someone other then myself.

If there is another way to protest, whether meaningless or not, that would not completely fuck over people who don't want to become involved then sure, i'd support that. Even if there were only 100 people its the fact that those 100 people stood up against politics and maybe if the companies check their profits they will see a little decrease in it, which in turn after March is over they would see the profits going up to normal again so they would look into why this has happened and by chance should they see operation black march theres a chance they WILL SUPPORT IT

of course in facts the chances are low that they actually look at their small income change since their rich they don't care

but with the 100 people slowly the message will spread to more people and companies which in turn with enough people knowing the message and the companies going against it , the supporters will slowly decline and SOPA, internet censorship will disappear in this year
