@break well, in some way, he is. If you'd been paying attention the anime version had been choosing all the ridiculous options that were present in the game. Just because he's a silent protagonist doesn't mean that he can't have any personality, as it all based on the decisions you make as the player.

This is why I like this anime, it shows the protagonist as one awesome character without straying away from the presentation within the game itself. He's still the quiet guy, yet it's obvious that he got a lot more personality than a lot of other anime characters out there.
