@Sol420 Because anime is not just about animation. It's divided in to two medias; audio and video. And to replace the original audio takes away half of the originality from the anime. Which according to me, makes it less "legit".

@13 Again, i fail to realize how changing the audio takes out the originality. The plot remains the same. The dialogue remains the same, just translated into a different language. I don't see how that lessens the quality of the show.

@Sol420 i dotn get his reasonign either; it snot like the dialogue gfets replaced with completely different lines with a completely different meaning, after all. his argument would only be valid if they didnt translate it, but replace it with different, unrelated lines. and i have yet to hear about anyone who ever did that.

Because dubbing is basically like throwing away all of the work the put in to it and make a downgraded version. It's like puring dirt over a perfectly made sandwich, which would obviously lower the quality it. Let's say if you changed the video into something else, like remade the whole animation to a poorly made live-action version, that's how dubbing is to me.

@13 Throwing away the....You do realize that Anime DVDs come with BOTH language tracks available right? Hell, on the dubbing company's website, most shows are ONLY available in the sub form for free. You need to actually pay to watch the dub on DVD unless you're watching on TV. Then again, there are only a handful of anime series shown on TV in the first place, not counting giant toy commercials like Yugioh or bakugan, so it's a bit of a moot point.

When they dub an anime, it's not like they disrespect the work. These actors and directors have nothing but respect for the source material. Do you think these people just wake up and say "Hey, lets murder this series by talking in english!?" You can say what you want about how they sound. You can say what you want about their acting skills. But don't you DARE say that they don't respect the original material. These VAs may not all be hardcore anime fans, but they love their work and they do the best they can to live up to the expectations of the viewers. The fact that you would even imply otherwise is an insult not just to them but to the original Seiyus as well.

@Sol420 I never mentioned anything about disrespect. What I am saying is that I dislike dubbing because I don't like the idea of it, to remake something that is already perfect, and yes that also means that I have a problem when they translate books into diffrent languages. It's not like I hate the companies or the voice actors for doing it, I'm just that kind of person that is against all sorts of downgrading of originality.

@13 Alright, maybe i jumped the gun a bit with that last comment. And what you said just now holds some weight when it comes to movies or tv shows. But I still fail to see how translation is a downgrade.

And translating books? seriously? If it's in a different language that I don't speak, how the hell am i supposed to read it? I don't even mean that in a debate sort of way. I just want to know exactly what you meant by that.

@Sol420 I mean that I prefer reading books in their original language. Basically if there's a russian book that I want to read, then I would prefer to learn russian first and read it like that instead of a translation. That might sound stupid and/or crazy whatever, but I'm just that kind of person.

@13 personnaly im content with watchign in japanese with subs that help em udnerstand, why i myself maintain enough japanese to udnerstand the basics and udnerstand the untranslatable wordpuns the subs avoided, but not enough to properly udnerstand it all withotu subs (so well). i dont think a dub really changes the originality of the show, however, unless they ad in new dialogue or completely change th eold one. (the dub of digimon adventure, or os i ehard, was particularly bad in changign stuff and addign new dialogue that mainly sevred to make joe and mimi look a lot more sterotyped and bad than they originally were. made joe mroe whimpy and mimi mroe girly, for whatever reason. the german dub i watched a s akid is strange, as it fixed allt he stuff the english dub translated wrongly, as well as accurate and good translations of the insert songs (throughout all 4 seasons, courtesy of Andy Knote), btu for soem unknown reason also included soem of the lines the american dub added which werent int he original, which is strange.

Generally I'd say no. But if I recall, they did make a "Korean Anime" once upon a time. Also, if you look sometimes of the people who worked on the anime, it's not generally jap people. There's also koreans and viet's working on the animation.
