My favorite genus of the order Araneae is the Portia.

They are jumping spiders that prey on other spiders. Their hunting prowess is remarkable in that they are capable of problem solving and learning, a cognitive characteristic reserved for larger animals.

The 17 described species are found in Africa, Australia, China, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, and Vietnam.

You can read about its hunting techniques here: #Hunting_techniques

@PigBoss Oh god... a jumping spider. I can tolerate most spiders... but not jumping ones. At least with NORMAL SPIDERS they crawl so you can predict where they're going. But jumping spiders.... you just never know what they're gonna do. And they're too quick for you to do anything about it. YOUR LIFE IS IN THEIR HANDS. I will never live anywhere near a jumping spider.

All other spiders though... we're cool.

i do not like spiders now, but loved them when i was younger. i had pet black widow when i was 5, and the fieyr mentioned when i was eight. i would take them off their web and put them in a large clear box. i would then take the spider to school and when i came home i would place them back on their web. i dont know why i dont like them now, but they scare me.

I learned about a species of spiders that could actually walk on water and used spider webs + bubbles to catch prey underwater... I remember being paranoid about water-spiders whenever I visited the river o.O

The Jewelled Spider is also known by its Latin name - Gasteracantha Minax, meaning "threatening and projecting". They are also known as spiny orb weavers and are part of the orb weaving spider family. This spider's body is very broad and grows to the size of a 20c piece, with its 8 legs being the length of a pin (fairly short for a spider). Its abdomen is strikingly coloured with bright yellows, orange or reds as well as white and black. Six stout spines (long and sharp) come from the border of the abdomen.

I used to see a lot of these little guys around my own home, they really terrified, yet fascinated, me.

@PigBoss Okay yeah, he's kind of cute. In fact, that may be the cutest spider I've ever seen. But it's all a ruse! Trying to gain your trust by looking cute and lulling you into a false sense of security... but then... when you least expect it... he'll jump on your face!

    I'm not so easily deceived...
