Hello, one and all.
Most of you know me. I am the most horrible being on CL, Lord of the Shovels, Master of Hate and also the local Devil. I also like to post documentaries when I am not making your life here a living hell. And today, to celebrate the resurrection of the 'Do you believe in god' thread, I'd like to present you a documentary which talks about different religions and the matter of belief in general.
The narrator and a questioner of the movie is Bill Maher - a famous stand-up comedian. I have to say right here, that I listened to his material and I did not like all of it. My main trouble with him is that his political humor is not even - he plainly shows support to one side more than to another. However, other than that, he is alright and he is a funny person raising some good points. And he's not taking sides in this movie.
And I do mean - no sides. He goes to Christians, Muslims, Jews, Mormons and he pokes fun at all of them. And honestly, from what those people say... you don't have to be a comedian to poke fun at them, cause they act in a way that makes them funny to a more normal person. But I am going slightly ahead of myself.
The movie is structured very simply. Bill goes around the world meeting representatives of different religions or people closely tied to something religious and he interviews them. And it is funny and enlightening in a way. Between those interviews he might review what he talked about with a person, there might be some scenes shown in-between or during the interviews, but basically that's it - Bill talking to religious people.
Now, if you are highly religious - you will not like the movie. That is a fact. Also, you really have to watch it and that's a fact too. If your faith won't be shaken, at least you would see what kind of crazies represent your belief out there. Which you really should know. Those of you who are not religious will really enjoy the movie cause it is funny and well-structured, the themes, while being connected to the single point of religiousness, vary. Oh, and you religious people out there really might want to watch this to know what points are more likely to come out in a religious argument. You really need that. So I really recommend it to all of you.
PS. One more interesting note. This documentary is, right at this moment, fully available on Youtube. Just so you know.
