As we’ve been working on bringing Steam to the living room, we’ve come to the conclusion that the environment best suited to delivering value to customers is an operating system built around Steam itself. SteamOS combines the rock-solid architecture of Linux with a gaming experience built for the big screen. It will be available soon as a free stand-alone operating system for living room machines.

It looks like Valve's Linux support before now has all been positioning for SteamOS. Since they've got two more announcements coming up, I suspect they're going to announce a new hardware device designed for SteamOS as well. They've got some interesting proposals for sure. What do you guys think?

Looking at the iconography, we have Steam OS represented by two parens making an O. Next announcement is represented by the Steam OS icon in a box, like such:

For this reason, I do agree that it is likely to be the SteamBox.

What interests me the most is the third icon, represented as

Now they have already announced Steam Family Sharing, and Valve is fond of ramping up their announcements (which is honestly the only right way to announce multiple related items. What could it be tht is new, related to Steam OS and SteamBox, and having to do with combination, addition, or sharing? Could this be a Steam-to-Steam game selling platform?

Also I am quite interested in how they'll play the SteamOS card. Is it just tossed upon a stripped Ubuntu distribution, since they have been using Ubuntu LTE for development of their Steam for Linux client? Or is it something new, relying on just the kernel and possibly the GNU userspace, allowing for greater customization and possibly performance for the OS/games?
