  1. CL is Still Alive CHORUS project! HUGE SUCCESS! Video done +bonus track.

The video is done! With incredible dedication, we are finishing this project within the set deadline right before the CL birthday. I thank everyone who participated in editing, singing or even just supporting this project from afar. And so I present to you the CL "Still Alive" chorus:

Credits are in the description and in the third post of this thread.

As you may remember, we had a discussion about making original lyrics. @TeruShinozaki even provided us with her very own and very well made version of the lyrics. Now, we decided against it in favor of more easy and known version. Still, we - the editors of the project - did a bit of singing, so yes, this is us performing the more CL-related version of the song for your listening pleasure.

No video for that one, but here's the link

I want to thank, once again, everyone who participated. Singers who managed to give us their recordings. I never expect that we would have so many people wanting to sing. And I really want to thank @Ecstasy and @Rinneko for answering my call and helping me with this. They now know what kind of control freak I am ))

Well, I am quite pleased with how this turned out. And I hope you are too.

    Hello, one and all!

In some recent chorus discussions it became obvious that we need more good English choruses. Now, I am usually not the one to start projects, however, @DarkChaplain mentioned an idea about making a chorus about CL. And not only it was a good idea, but I also support this fully and think it should be done in a special way. To show that CL is in fact Still Alive. And yes, I want to do the Portal song Still Alive.

My thought is to make it a sort of CL birthday chorus, but since I am new at making projects myself, and my editors are not the usual project cast, I decided to start this a bit early just it case of some complications. Better to finish this before CL b-day (which is March 21th btw, so we have a lot of time) than after it, in my opinion.

Also, at first I wanted to make it a double feature - doing both Still Alive and Wish you were Gone from Portal 2, but I had no good CL-related ideas for the second one, so we will be focusing on a single song. This will make the work easier for production cast and also this would allow the singers to do their best without switching to different rhythms, tunes or anything.

    So, let's do our best!

Right now we need singers, and everyone is welcome to join! I am not planning on doing auditions for this project. Well, maybe I will ask you to re-make some part of your recording... or maybe not, I am not sure about that myself yet, really. But anyways, no auditions, everyone is welcome. This is a project for CL after all.
Also, since I am planning on something that wasn't done here before, I have some ideas regarding the singers participation, so be prepared that I may ask you to do something in addition to making recordings. It won't be anything hard, won't take up more than 5 minutes of your time, really... or it may not happen at all - depending on me discussing that with my editors.

That's it for now. First three posts will be updated along with the status of the project.

    UPDATE 06.02. DEADLINE!!!

We are on! We will be singing original portal song, and the deadline for sending your songs is February 24th, Monday. In addition to your singing we would need some screenshots from you with song's lyrics. All tips and instructions can be found in the second post of this thread (right below this one, you know).
Send links to your recordings and screens me, Ecstasy or Rinneko by PM, or you can just post them in this thread is you want. If you are unable to upload files anywhere for some reason - you can also send them to this e-mail:

We also invite artists to make CL birthday drawings to add to a video! Yes, with this being all about CL, we decided - why not add some more possibilities for participation? So, art related to CL (I don't know, some users pictures, Server-tan with cakes, whatever comes to your mind) can be added to video too. Artists wishing to put their CL b-day drawings in the video also should send us links or post the pictures in the thread. Deciding to participate as an artist does not require you to sing, don't worry ))

First of all, thank you to all who sent their recordings. While we didn't receive any art (shame on you, people!), we have 15 singers, which is quite a lot. About twice of what I personally expected. Considering the number of people, mixing may take some time, but I am pretty sure we will be able to make our own deadline of March 21th.
Hope to give more updates soon.

    Useful stuff

Program to record your singing: Audacity. Pretty simple to use. If you are using that, make a recording and then export it to mp3 through File menu - it will create a usable file.
Also, in case you make a file, and aren't sure where to put it, like SoundCloud or something, you can use MediaFire site to upload your recordings.

Lyrics (may yet be changed, follow the updates)

    This was a triumph.
    I'm making a note here:
It's hard to overstate my satisfaction.
    Aperture Science
    We do what we must
    because we can.
For the good of all of us.
Except the ones who are dead.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake.
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.
    And the Science gets done.
And you make a neat gun.
For the people who are still alive.

    I'm not even angry.
I'm being so sincere right now.
Even though you broke my heart.
    And killed me.
    And tore me to pieces.
And threw every piece into a fire.
As they burned it hurt because I was so happy for you!

Now these points of data make a beautiful line.
    And we're out of beta.
    We're releasing on time.
So I'm GLaD. I got burned.
Think of all the things we learned
for the people who are still alive.

    Go ahead and leave me.
I think I prefer to stay inside.
Maybe you'll find someone else to help you.
    Maybe Black Mesa
    Anyway, this cake is great.
    It's so delicious and moist.

    Look at me still talking
    when there's Science to do.
When I look out there, it makes me GLaD I'm not you.
    I've experiments to run.
There is research to be done.
On the people who are still alive.

And believe me I am still alive.
I'm doing Science and I'm still alive.
I feel FANTASTIC and I'm still alive.
While you're dying I'll be still alive.
And when you're dead I will be still alive.

    Recording tips

You must record your singing only, do not make a recording with music - we will add it later. Just you singing. Try to make sure there are no other noises. Record in a quiet environment. Try to remove all sources of noise like pets and other people. Pretty much just try to make as clear a recording as you can and export it (if you are using audacity program) to an mp3 file.
To get a better recording and not blow into microphone, try holding the mic not under your mouth but above it. Personally, I hold my mic slightly to the side of my face. It helps.

    Screenshot instructions

This is what we will need. Screenshots of you saying all the lines of the song in CL chat. Notice that you should make those using DC's CL chat version. Now, to not bother other people on main, you should make your own channel. To make the channel, you can make the channel from the normal chat and then use DC's version to get there, or you can just switch the "main" in DC's channel link with whatever you want your channel name to be. It is also recommended to make your channel name very short, so it would not mess up the layout. 4 letters would be best.
Things we will need: all text bubbles with all lines, as they are in lyrics presented in this post. Message of you being online.
When you have all the screens, you can either archive them and put up the file on mediafire or similar site, or you can just upload the screens to any of the image-uploading sites. Try to make a good resolution - meaning, if you upload the images, do not resize them.

    Song tips

If you listened to audio commentary to Portal, you know that Ellen McLain - the voice of GLaDOS - is a singer... But she is an opera singer, so that was not the usual thing for her to sing. Yet she did admirably, and so will you. Now, enough spirit-building, let's get to work!
From watching the video you will see that the song is divided into parts, and every part starts with the singing being very mechanical, pretty much almost talking, and then it goes into proper singing further along. And the voice is being emotionless... and yet, emotions are there, in very subtle ways. Mostly sarcasm )) Also a thing to notice - the word cake. When that word is sang, it seems to be deliberately out of place, like it was picked from a list of words to go into that slot and it should have been something else, but ended up being cake. Think of the computer program that tells you 'Welcome to CL, ', and it get's your name from a database, and it always sounds not as proper as the rest of the sentence. If you know what I mean.
The song is full of details and intonations while being mechanical, and you would get that better if you have played the game, naturally. If will start hearing it better a you listen to it more. Still, the main thing to remember - it goes in parts and every part is going from monotone to melody.

If you would have any additional questions, you are welcome to ask them in the thread or by contacting the chorus staff by PM or through chat.

Woohoo, variety! I'd definitely like to see some new faces taking up roles in projects for once. We had some newer guys and gals trying to start a chorus a few months ago, but it was quickly overtaken by the same people as always, which is sad.

Looking forward to how this is going to progress. Also: Yay for single-song choruses!

Well, if it is Ecstasy and Kirn, we can at least be certain shit won't stay idle for up to a month while being stickied and taking up space...

    Now-now, let's not point fingers.

So, Ecstasy offered to help with audio, which is already great. I still would like people to apply, but generally, even if I won't get anyone else, I got a basis to start this. Worst case - I learn goddamn Vegas and do some extremely simple video myself. Still, I hope it wouldn't come to that, because that would be horrible.

Still, off to a good start already.

I can help sing, I've tried my hand at audio mixing before it's not my forte but I could try if you really need. As for video I'm a bit better but I don't have any programs to edit on this computer. I'll help if I can

Well. Right now I am still in process of searching for editors, and without that I can't start getting singers. However, while I do still search, I have offers for both positions, so I guess I will wait a bit more, and soon will write about the project details and start looking for singers. The changes will be reflected in the first post and in the name of the thread, so do keep an eye on that.

Alright. Let's get this thing rolling! The project is officially started now.

All three first posts are updated.
We are now looking for singers! Everyone is welcome! Join now!
@Ecstasy and @Rinneko are our audio and video editors respectfully. Praise them! Btw, now that I have revealed the song - do say if you would also sing this )
Also, I am pinging @MrTrain who was interested, and I also ping @Warlock here. Since he is participating in choruses as a singer, he may also be interested in CL-centered chorus. If he would have the time.

Likewise, I'm also looking forward to working on this. I won't be participating as a singer here this time, but I hope that all the singers enjoy themselves! :)

Lol, @Dec, you do remember that those people have to confirm? Can't put them in just yet. And don't you panic so much. I won't be making your part bigger than the rest, so you don't have to worry too much. Just the usual amount of worry will do )

Anyways. 8 people on the list already. Nice! And I figured that I would need at least 6 to start this, so this seems promising already.

I will put up new update tomorrow with a survey of sorts about our song and some other related stuff.

I have the same feeling. =w= I suppose this chorus has a rather special feeling, because it is CL-related.

Are you going to sing, @Cenica?
