I'm really happy for all American homosexuals. They don't deserve to be discriminated against, especially if it prevents them from reaping the legal benefits brought about by marriage. One step closer to complete equality, at the very least.
However, this ruling sure has unearthed a ton of controversies, like whether or not other non-traditional relationships should be allowed equal rights as well. Some people have compared gay marriage to pedophilia, albeit not very well argued, but there have been protests. One of the dissenting Justices, Chief Justice John Roberts also brings up polyamorous relationships.
If not having the opportunity to marry ‘serves to disrespect and subordinate’ gay and lesbian couples, why wouldn’t the same ‘imposition of this disability,’ … serve to disrespect and subordinate people who find fulfilment in polyamorous relationships?
