  1. Minecraft - Command Block Inventions

    Command Blocks

...Are helpful little blocks in Minecraft, allowing you to run console commands without inputting them. Command blocks can do more than player console commands, as individual players have permission limits on some things, and can't send commands that are very long.

Part of why I've been playing with them is, when used correctly, you can use the existing game physics to make Working Mods in Vanilla Minecraft!

So what I'll post here periodically is:

    • How to use them (Directly Below) and copy/pasting commands

    • New things I've made with pics.

    • Other random fun stuff.

    • Links to pastbins with One-Commands or many if its a prototype.

Also, besides Vanilla Mods, its just fun to goof off.

How to use Commands & Command Blocks

    Basics:

    • To enter normal console commands, you need to open the command line with Forward slash [/] then enter a command, and press [enter] to perform the function.

    • To get a command block (they aren't directly accessible) type the following command into the console:

                    /give @p command_block

    • Only players in creative mode can open command block's command line to enter commands. You can do this with right-clicking on said block.

    • When some command block machines are set up, you may see gray text spammed in the chat continuously. This is just MC's way to show updated blocks, etc. To make this not appear, you can use the following command in the console:

                  /gamerule commandBlockOutput false

In short, when starting a new world or using Command blocks for the first time, put the above two commands into your console.

    Other Tips:

You can copy and paste commands to/from/between blocks and textfiles. You just need to know basic keyboard shortcuts:

    • Ctrl + [A] Selects all text in a field/command line.

    • Ctrl + [C] Copies selected text.

    • Ctrl + [V] Pastes copied text.

Also, should any commands not work, make sure you're using the newest version of Minecraft (NOT snapshots).

Tips on Setting up Vanilla Mods

Most of the work isn't finding a command or series of commands to have running. Odds are you'll just use other peoples inventions, as a lot of ideas are already out there and perfected.

The real brunt of the work is setting up a chunk to have loaded at all times. Chunks in minecraft are 16x16x255 "chunks" of the loaded world. As you explore, more chunks are loaded, and the ones behind you eventually unload and are saved.

Why is this relevant? Well if you're command block invention is in an unloaded chunk, it stops working.

In Vanilla Minecraft, theres one kind of chunk that stays loaded at all times: The world's spawn point. When a spawnpoint is set, the chunk it is in is loaded at all times. If you don't want to use that chunk or have a different chunk you want loaded, you can change the world spawnpoint to where you're currently standing by entering this console command:

                            /setworldspawn

To actually see where the chunk boundaries are

...you can see the information by pressing [F3] and looking in the highlighted area below:

    http://i.imgur.com/zCOjlgs.png

The entire span of the chunk will stay loaded, from the void down at 0 on the Y axis, to the height limit of 255 on the Y axis.

To effectively keep command blocks hidden (like on a server) I recommend encasing a part of the chunk in Bedrock, or having a command that teleports normal players just outside of the spawn area whenever they get close.

    In other words...

    • Find a chunk you like.

    • Set it as the world spawn so it remains loaded at all times.

    • Put all the command blocks inside the chunk. Done!

    What does it do?

    • Lets you disguise as a Crafting Table block! Image

    • Lets you disguise as ANY Mob! (hostile mobs still attack you, particularly the one you're disguised as) Image

    Instructions:

Copy the Command -Here- from pastebin, put it in a command block, then power it!

From there, everything is straightforward, as long as you read the signs and Lore for the items.

    What does it do?

    • You can use Flame-based weapons that regenerate when used in survival mode!

    • You have special abilities, such as melting ice, and fire resistance!

    • You have an optional outfit that you can wear if you want.

    • You get cool flame effects when flames are enabled: http://i.imgur.com/56nUxyE.png

    What does it do?

    • Adds 4 "Spells" that make you an "Elemental" with special abilities and/or status effect buffs!

    • Use the "Remove" Spell to set yourself back to normal.

    • Each Elemental "power" gives you some form of particle effect!

    • Water, Fire, Animal, and Ice Elemental abilities are available!

    • Spawn a custom Villager that sells all the spells for diamonds (if you want to play the game normally and 'earn' them):

    What does it do?

    • You can plant C4 bombs on any surface!

    • The bombs slowly rotate, and beep when players are within earshot!

    • The C4 can be triggered manually, but they have a default countdown of 2 minutes before exploding.

    • They have an explosion radius of 10 blocks!

    • You can attempt to disarm the bomb if you're close enough, but it has a chance of exploding prematurely too!

    UPDATE

I've edited the posts I've made before to inform people that they only work in versions BEFORE 1.9 like 1.7.10 and 1.8.1

From now on, new stuff is for Minecraft version 1.9+

    What does it do?

    • You can set trapped chests that turn into a mimic when players in survival mode get close. (The mimic is a baby zombie with custom armor).

    • One mimic spawns from each chest "trap" placed.

    • Currently no way to have them naturally spawn.

    • The chest can be rotated to face 4 possible directions based on the creative-mode player's facing when they are standing near them.

    • There is a tell-tale sign that a chest is a mimic, so it is fair to players who are observant.

    • Chest and Mob-drops don't have any special loot yet.

    Version 1.1

    What does it do?

    • This Adds 4 custom structures that randomly generate as you naturally explore the world! Previously explored areas don't generate new things that get in the way either!

    • As soon as you see that the command block structure is built and the install message has appeared, the customized generations are enabled (as always, the command block structure must be in the same chunk as your spawn point so it works all the time).

    • Adds Pirate Towers inspired by the lookout towers in Zelda: Wind Waker. The towers have Pirate-Zombie spawners and two ghasts mounted at the base. These only spawn in water.

    • Adds "Wandering Traders" who have makeshift rafts and sell things that can help the player (including a diving helmet!). These villagers and their rafts only spawn in water.

    • Adds Buried treasure, marked with red sand, that you have to look underwater to find! Buried treasure only spawns in water (it sinks to the sea floor to be found) and if it is shallow water, you may need to dig deep to find the actual treasure (about 10-15 blocks). Odds are you might want to get that diving helmet I mentioned!

    • And finally, it Adds simplistic villager huts, that spawn in groups of 5 or fewer. These can only spawn on or near grass blocks (on land).

    • Also there are OPTIONAL items the player can get from the command block machine itself, The Hylian Shield, The Hero's Sword, and The Hero's Bow. These 3 are unbreaking so it feels a bit more like Zelda. These Items are very much Over-Powered, so if you like more of a challenge, I'd recommend skipping these.

It is HIGHLY recommended that you use a customized world generation preset, which will generate the terrain of your world in a specific way. The Archipelago Custom Generation is very immersive for this "sailing and exploration-friendly" command block mod.

    Known Issues:

    • Sometimes multiple things can spawn in close proximity to eachother.

    • Also LAG may occur when spawning the towers, as they are fairly large structures.

    • Custom Superflat worlds will generate some things at inconvenient heights, since they spawn at the absolute Y sea level, rather than relative to the world's contents.

As you will notice in the following images, there is a recommended texture pack as well, although no one is forcing you to use it. It's Frenden's Meringued Cartoon Pack
