I think that anime has started to decrease in quality since a few years ago. It used to be the kind of quality where watchers can consider the morals about society or a sort of life lesson was given. Now it's more into just setting up the moe for other people. However I do think that there are still anime that are good enough like the ones few years ago. It's just not as common anymore.
like others already pointed out, mainly the usual "everythign was better in ye olde days" and "it used to be cool" hipster-blabble of some person trieng to look mature or intellectual to soem people while pretty much beeing the exact opposite. i dotn see why we should discuss stuff liek that anymore; weve seen so many people do it all over the time, really the only difference between the general harem-anime of today and the general harem-anime from a decade ago is that its better animated, but more censored. oh and that these days nipples get drawn while a decade ago, the same scenes werent censored but had just breasts without nipples instead. well most of the time. and if they say "old is better", they should actually LOVE taht stuff, sicne the trope of a"harem-story" arguably is over a thpusand years old, with "Tale of Genji" after all. just an example. people who wanna sound intellectual shoudl at least have arguments and do their research, plus not be overly nbiased.. too bad so many people dont get it. well, soem of them get better when they grow up i guess...
Hi I'm new here and was just reading this post and if you don't mind me commenting its just that anime isn't only to answer the question "how awesome would it be to be a world-class assassin / kung-fu master / robot pilot / baseball hero?" but show and expose its viewers to different stories of life. Most animes are indeed about fantasy and action but others are more about life and what it means to be a teenager in japan.
It's true some suck but not all. It depends on who makes it and whats it about.
Honestly it depends on your taste there will always an have always since the creation of anime been harems wether they be obvious or not. The thing is that most ppl who are watching the shows now and looking back on the ones from years past such as myself are entering a phase of there life where they are becoming cynical. I love anime now and I loved it then there will always be crappy and non crappy anime we just need to accept that fact. And others need to accept the fact tht they grew out of it and need to stop complainin and bringing me out if my semi catatonic slumber.
Anime sucks? Hell Nah! Some crappy series might but anime as a whole NO. Remember something ppl~ Anime's the reason Colorless even exists.

The industry is just too vast. Seeing as age targets can go as young as idk, 1 and as old as however old you get in Japan. Point is, it's been around for a long time and the same way hollywood movies can range from downright retarded comedy to borderline porn r-18 films about highschool students, genres are too many to count. Heck, you can call this or that a genre and it wouldn't matter.
What I'm trying to say is that with the material they're getting from all over the place (manga, light novels, visual novels, original ideas from all over the place, books, literature, music, games, idk porn?) it can be anything.
And with that, I just disproved that fallacy of an argument of that guy, which is a hasty generalization btw, with a fallacy of my own.
