One thing I can say about Dante's post is.... People pleaaase look into wigs when planning on a cosplay Even if you're hair may seem okay, and yes I've seen some good cosplays without them, personally I think wigs are the way to go. I've worn a wig with every cosplay I've done so far and styling the wig is honestly my favorite part of the work in process. Speaking of works in process. After having a wonderful weekend at Katsucon last week, got back home and started working on my friend Jay's Eridan cosplay for Anime Boston. Mixed his makeup, styled his wig (WEFTS...), molded the horns, ordered the fins, got a hold of friend making Ahab's crosshairs and accurate scarf, put the symbol on the shirt... anyways these are some progress shots with another scarf of his. Painting his horns tomorrow then putting them on a headband base, then starting on the cape.... http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lzvbgvrvkL1qdtchqo3_500.jpg http://30.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lzvbgvrvkL1qdtchqo6_250.jpg We still have a whole bunch to do (pants...cape..fins..horns) THANK GOD AB ISN'T TILL APRIL... also If you'd like I can post photos from Katsucon!

what do you guys suggest for making the horns out of? I've tried with clay paper/fast mache and it didn't really work :/

Well, it depends on whose horns you are making. For my first ever Nepeta horns, I used a tinfoil base and paperclay. I've come to really like my friend's method of making horns which has an insulation foam base that is carved into the horn shape then covered in paper mache....its how she made her Summoner horns in the photo. http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lp65hos8bf1qbye1fo1_500.jpg What I've been trying recently (and what most people use) is Model Magic. For Jay's horns (and my newer Nepeta horns) I made a tinfoil base and covered them in Model Magic, let them dry in a turned over box, and painted.

A while ago I decided I wanted to Cosplay Jade, and was pretty intent on doing so, I'd bought a wig and glasses and even fabric for the 3 In the Morning dress. The cosplay never amounted to anything. But I spent quite a lot on the wig and I'd still like to use it at some point. The only thing is, I have no idea how to care for them? Is it ok just to leave it in it's packaging or should I let it air?

Well for wigs you can braid longer wigs to keep them from tangling. If you styled it with spikes that might be crushed if you store it in a box I'd suggest keeping it on a wig head and keeping it out of the way . If it doesn't have any extreme styling leaving it in it packaging is good. Just remember to comb it out before and after using it. That is pretty much all I can think of.

wow i really wish i read the let the horns dry under a box thing because mine are cracking x-x i think im going to either try glue ontop to see if that smooths it out.. or maybe just chip the clay off and paper mache it..

    oh.. and -bump-

Shirt and shoes handpainted. The entire outfit took only a couple hours to make. Anybody who cosplays this poorly has no excuse.
