I don't care about homosexuality itself. I support legalizing gay marriage and all that stuff that we're having issues with here in the US.

Really, the government should not have anything to do with marriage. Our constitution states that the government can not establish any religion.

Everyone against gay marriage (That I've talked to) says that marriage is a union between a man an a woman through God. So if it's illegal for a gay couple, it should also be illegal for me to be married since I'm an atheist.

Atheists and homosexuals, then, must be allowed to be in civil unions, having all the same rights and benefits as married couples. Problem solved, we get equal rights and the word marriage stays "clean."

@zechs i don't agree with that argument, though i can understand where he's coming from. we already know that people have children outside of marriage, and that married couples don't always have kids. while marriage may have originally been a means to regulate procreation from a social standpoint, that is no longer its sole purpose. married couples can file taxes differently, and have various political and economic benefits. gay people want to marry because they want to spend the rest of their lives together in a union accepted by society. to that you may say, "fuck just get a civil union". but really it's the principle of the matter, not to mention religious homosexuals may wish to hold a ceremony in front of the god they worship. i honestly don't understand why homosexual marriage is an issue. marry who you want to marry, fuck. the government should really have no say in it, it doesn't fucking concern them it should just be legal and not be such an issue.

Agreed with @SENsei, this is a big problem. Even more so that gay marriage.

But fo realz' I don't mind gay marriage, people should be able to love who they want. I think Australia will pass gay marriage soon, it's just our BITCH of a prime minister wont support it. If we got a prime minister who supports it, then it'll pass.

Pretty much what everyone said already. I'm less certain with the marriage (and adopting kids) portion though. Unless the love is strong enough to keep them together (and yes, there are many couples who are able to live harmoniously), I fail to see it working out in a long run. Especially since many kids nowadays are claiming to be gay just for attention.

In my opinion, violation of a key principle of a religion disallows you from the practice of a religious ceremony, especially when its contradictory. Civil unions exist for this purpose. It binds property and people together, but distances itself from the procreationary aspects of marriage.

That system works great. It violates no principles or definitions. So gays can't have the status of a legit marriage, but that's arbitrary and inconsistent thought with no basis in definition and has no place in law.

Aside from the terms themselves, the plurality of people are against gay relationships, but there is still a minority of gays and their supporters. So, the government allows for the freedom to engage in gay relations BUT doesn't institutionalize it. Things are as they should be right now in my opinion. That being said, opinions change, and the plurality may move to favour gays
