English really is unique in that multiple words have several shades of meanings in different context and a propensity to have multiple words for essentially the same thing. Get rid of the spelling and suddenly all those meanings and shades disappear, and that's really unfortunate.

I wouldn't really mind actually if some one managed to find a way to shorten words but also keep different spellings and meanings. That'd be quite fantastic.
