Today is Nikola Tesla day.
The Oatmeal did an amazing comic (link above) for Tesla, one of the greatest minds of the late 19th and early 20th century.
Also here are some videos explaining his life and his contributions to humanity.
I've seen the village in which he was born. They barely have electricity today LoL.
Okay, I admit, that was an exaggeration. Anyway, he's one of the reasons I took up electrical engineering.
Wow, that comic was very informative and entertaining. I knew about Thomas Edison ripping off Tesla, but never about the extent to how much of an ass he was. It's a shame Tesla never got the credit he deserved in life. Who knows how the world would be had that tower been created, yet again douchebaggery ruins everything for everyone. This is why we can't have nice things.
Yeah it's kind of depressing to me that all this detail was left out when I was taught about Edison in school. In fact, I don't think Tesla was ever mentioned once. This needs to change.
A petition perhaps? Even if it takes forever, it could at least put the info out there and could inspire more people to learn about him independently?

@TokoyamiSenshi well to be fair, we don't get any of that power cause we sell it to everywhere (mostly NYC though) and the city won't let us use the power

If justice has been able to be served against Alexander Graham Bell stealing Antonio Meucci's documents, I am convinced that the same can be done concerning Thomas Edison, in regards to Nikola Tesla.
As a fellow scientist myself, I can but fully comprehend the frustration of having years of research and dedication being snatched from you. Science and the progress that it brings to us all, should be a tool of collective gain, and not of individualism.

@break While it's true that Tesla can't directly benefit from post-mortem recognition, by giving him credit today, we honor his memory by setting the record straight.
It's important to not only reeducate those who were taught incorrectly, but also to drive home the point that no one is immune to having the legacy of their life's work, stolen and incorrectly attributed to someone else. I would hope that, considering the world is more interconnected today than at any point in the past, that this would be less likely to happen.
What happened to Tesla serves as a cautionary tale to all future revolutionaries as well as a reminder for the rest of us to seek out and verify the truth instead of complacently accepting the version of history that's popular.
Nikola Tesla is amazing. This is the first time I have heard about him, but he is amazing. That's the only way I can describe him. To have contributed so much to science and humanity in a time where people only wanted inventions they could use then and there, and not get any credit for it, only to move on and invent something else just made him an awe inspiring human being. He was born too early because it took the rest of the world too long to catch up to him. Also, to be celibate his whole life so he could dedicate his time to his research shows how focused the man was. I could never be on the same level as him, but I can show my appreciation.
