It's a fan's mother fucking job to be butthurt over poor methods of adapting original content. And it's not even just the cut scenes and how they prioritized the stereotypical shounen fights over what the exposition covered; they were altering shit for no real apparent reason. Then again, lol A-1, not that surprising.

I think they did what they had to to make it an anime people will watch rather than a faithful adaptation that the fans of the LN series will like, which is a good move in marketing imo. The animation so far has been amazing and as someone who started the light novels only a little bit prior to the anime, I think they're doing a great job with it.

well the first books were full of stereotypical shounen stuff in the exposition too. like all the Asuna-fluff and the way they cleared SAO. very stereotypical. the Author himself complained about that.

@break: I don't think you know what exposition means, because your examples provide nothing on it. And lolwut? Reki complained about the general market being stereotypical shounen, you need to go back and reread his statement.

@piranaut: I didn't say they were doing a bad job, but I don't see the point of how rearranging the beater scene and 2nd floor transition attributes to how it'll make people want to watch it more; it's an unnecessary alteration.

I'm disappointed that we didn't see any real fighting in episode 3.

Also, all of these deaths could have been avoided if they'd had experience playing Dark Souls beforehand.

I just watched all three eps just then. All my tears. Oh man, this anime is awesome.

@Xyopq Imagine being stuck in the Dark Souls world, with the same rules as SAO.

Okay, after finishing all the translated (baka-tsuki) volumes of the LN so far, I have come to the conclusion that the LN is much better than the anime (no surprise here). In fact, after watching episode three yesterday, I reckon, although it's a good appropriation, the anime seems a bit too fragmented for my liking. I'm not sure whether it's actually "good" in the eyes of someone who doesn't know most of the story and hasn't read the LN. I like how they tried to make put the chapters in chronological order but somehow that just makes it feel really rushed. Anyone else agree (and has read the LN)?

@zatsunen I've finished all the LN volumes (that have been out so far), and to be honest, the animation isn't a bad adaptation, in fact, I think it's doing a good job so far.

Considering it's only a 20 something-episode series (is it?), the SAO animation is doing a fair job following the beginning plot of the LN. Later parts of the story are more important, and it's only ep3. Hopefully the series will put in more details in the later episodes.

PS.*******SPOILER ALERT to those haven't read the LN*********************************** I mean, even after SAO there's still ALO and GGO. Judging by the total episodes...I think this TV series will continue into fairy dance...etc

@azuerefeawen I agree that the anime isn't bad so far but I still reckon it's a little too fast paced. The first two episodes were excellently adapted but after watching the third episode, I feel that, even though they did a pretty good job at sorting out the events from the novels, it might be a bit too fragmented for the average watcher, who hasn't read the LN. And agreed, I hope they will put more details in later.

Spoiler: I hope they do but I really doubt they will be able to fit all the events of the SAO arc into the series unless they have more than one season of it, which will all depend on how popular it gets. If you're correct in saying that they will have around 20 episodes, at 20 minutes each, not including opening/credits, it'll be quite difficult to fit even just the SAO arc in without it being rushed like the third episode. Not to mention all the side stories.
I guess it will be too much to hope that they will somehow animate the STL arc one day...

Episode 4 had too many tentacles, not enough awesome fighting.

I wouldn't be surprised if the sister shows up later

If I was in SAO I'd probably be a beast tamer (or hand-to-hand if that exists).

This episode was really good, explained how the battle system worked a bit more, had some cute little sister type character, showed that it's a pvp world. The "awesome fighting" can come second.

Also: http://i.imgur.com/ZbL03.gif I was afraid they'd do something horrible to her, but nope.

I really enjoyed episode 5. Although there wasn't much action, the turn into the crime genre was quite refreshing. However, you'd think that people would be used to other players dying by now geez

@Senkonna Ok, so fair enough if the girl freaks out that her partner died. But the lance guy hadn't seen the guy that was killed for over 6 months, so it's not like they were best buds or anything. Not to mention that the lance guy is a tank on the front lines - meaning that he's a high enough level to take on just about anyone (and definitely won't get one-shotted ).

Also, how can Kirito say the game is fair when just last episode he took on 5 guys by breaking the game with his regenerating health? //endrant
