  1. CAN IT GET WORSE?

My school known as Wilcox Central High School has dropped another bomb on the students. Let me go into detail on why I say this.

Since my freshman year, I've had new principals. The one I had in my freshman year was booted out towards the middle of it for sexual harassment of a female student. He was principal of my school for over 20 years, and he is just now getting caught? Can that happen? I don't think he really did it, but it's not what I think that matters. So that May he was officially fired from his position. Our two assistant principles at that time were also moved. Well, one was moved to an elementary school to be principal, and the other was fired.

My sophomore year was a little bit better. Our new principal was hired, and even though he was strict, he was better than the old one. His only fault was that he was let go from another school system because of money embezzlement. I believe in second chances, but not when it comes to my education. This summer he was fired from my school for, guess what? That's right! Embezzlement! He stole somewhere along the lines of $1,200 from the school budget. Even I saw that coming.

Now for my Junior year, I have a new principal, again. This time it's some guy who was fired from both a Junior High School in Monroeville, AL and a school system in Mississippi for sexual harassment charges. Why would they hire someone like that you ask? Well he failed to mention that when asked to talk about his past positions in the educational system. You would think that our Board of Education would do a background check right? Well that's not what happened. The Superintendent recommended this fellow just like she recommend principal number two. I guess she didn't know about his history either. I wonder how long it'll be before this one is fired.

If I get a new principal next year when I'm a Senior, I will try my hardest to move with my sister to Baltimore. I don't blame the principals for doing what they did. They were given the chance and they used it to the best of their abilities. I place fault on the Superintendent. She recommend them, but no one is pointing that out. With all of this in mind, can it get worse? Many of the good teachers, the ones that actually cared about educating students are either gone, or making plans to leave. Can it get worse?

Well, you could be stricken with poverty or murdered in your sleep or something but apparently those things can be swept under the rug for much more urgent and appalling issues such as new principals.

I went to a high school where I have gone through a lockdown, seen Tamil/Afghan rivalries get ugly (with knives and all), all near a neighbourhood known for having one the most police calls responded in city. After I left that school, I heard about how some people had straight up kidnapped a person, and beat him to near death. I think 2 people went to juvie for that, if not prison, and at least one got deported.

And then there is a friend of mine who went to a school in which carrying a machete in your locker was considered to be way to keep yourself safe. (Guy in particular upped this by having a 9mm.)

So yes, things can be worse.

@someone I've gone through many lockdowns, but those were only because some gangs rivalries got out of control and overly violent. The worse we've ever had were students bringing guns and drugs to school in their cars. They still bring the drugs, but the ones with the guns were sent to jail. As far as I know, the police come to my school for security checks, and car searches. Well they only do that at my school.

@kosukechan I live in the poorest county in my state, so poverty really won't affect me too much. Sure it will be harder to live with it but I will adapt pretty quickly. As for being killed in my sleep, that is definitely worse. But if I had to die that way then so be it. I'm not suicidal, and hopefully I might wake up during some part of my murder so that I can fight for my life, but if I had to die that way then fine. I've almost died plenty of times so it's no big deal.

So... The worst my school is known for is producing a student who's become a meme in the wake of a riot. More sad than rough, really.

@Chestnut_Rice If it's the asian kid, you have no idea how many times people have said he looks like me, to the point that I actually sort of recreated the picture for shits and giggles.

You don't have it that bad. I'm an Aussie, and i went to a top ranked Sydney high school. Why have i brought up the fact that i'm Aussie you ask? Well i'll tell you why. Its because the school was high ranked for a reason. The school consisted of 99% Asians. Of the remaining 1%, we had Samoans, kiwis, Lebanese, Serbians, Arabs, and me. I swear to god, by my last year I was the last "whitey" in my grade. Its really hard to find your place in between the gap.

@Izic Wow that is tough. You could have transferred to my school if you felt like that. We are 99% Black with the remaining 1% being White. They fit in well though and are treated like any other Black student. There are only three of them now though, and I'm close to all of them. Some of my best friends in fact. I'm sure you would have found somewhere you fitted in with us.

@megumi-tan I talked that over with my cousins and we know what that good thing will be. We're going to make this happen. We will graduate and be satisfied with just getting out of high school with everyone in our grade. For some reason, students have this weird knack of getting into car accidents, getting shot, or flat out drowning while skipping school, but maybe my class will be the one to finally end that. We haven't lost anyone yet (besides the occasional ones that failed and were held back a grade)!

Sadly, there are many schools like yours in North America. Exactly why the "first world" is going to shit. Adults expect us to fix our nations' future problems when /they/ can't even (literally) fix our classrooms? Bullcrap.

It can easily get worse. I can understand how schools can be like this as I feel like my school holds many issues. We all have a school from our past that had some issue's and we had to deal with them. The best way to get through these issues is to do good in school and then say to hell with it as you head to college or your adult life. Just get through it. . .also consider moving to a new country with better schools. . .like what I'm considering. o-O'
